NDMS: Labour vows to protect media plurality and implement Leveson proposals

If Milliband was to win the election he would have stopped large businesses owning the media e.g. Rupert Murdoch. Institutions such as news corporation own a high amount of  the media therefore, giving them the opportunity to express their views across in the media.  They will be setting a cap of 34% meaning News Corp will have to get rid of one of their media products. This challenges Pareto's law as it now can mean that more companies can make more profit and it leads to more competition in the media industry.

He makes sure that he is hiring staff he would be able to work with them if they were his boss. This is a different approach when hiring staff as it's usually taken into consideration whether a candidate posses key skills & roles. Not if they can manage a whole company.

Identities and the Media : Media and collective identity

Who are you : 
The culture around you influences your perception and others perceptions of you.

I think, therefore i am : 
In the past our identity was fixed and based on outside factors such as religion, class, work etc. 

From citizen to consumer: 
Our identity begins to be formed by what we buy and our wants over basic needs fueled by advertising. 

Rise of the individual:
The idea of an individual started to rise in the 60's. The fragmented self that being individuals having many identities was being concocted. 

Branding and lifestyle : 
purchasing a brand in helping defining your personality and identity. 

Who will we be ? : 
Technology and its effect on our identity and perception of it via social networks and data mining leading to tailored adverts.

List five brands you are happy to be associated with and explain how they reflect your sense of identity.

Do you agree with the view that modern media is all about 'style over substance'? What does this expression mean?

I do agree with the view as society has become more materialistic and people have conformed to this change in the norm as they now judge people on their possessions and what they own but not on who owns said products. The view above can be defined as "to think looks are more important than content". 
Is your presence on social media an accurate reflection of who you are? Have you ever added or removed a picture from a social media site purely because of what it says about the type of person you are?

My presence on social media is to some extent a true reflection of who i am. I have in some cases removed pictures that i believed were retracting from my 'crafted' persona online which I believe is a fairly true reflection of who i am however said pictures in my opinion may not have been following this leading to their removal.

What is your opinion on 'data mining'? Are you happy for companies to sell you products based on your social media presence and online search terms? Is this an invasion of privacy?

I my opinion our data will be shared amongst a number of companies whether we are in favour of this or not.

This then shows that the power that new and digital media may be understated as if it can influence a government and its policies where western, democratic governments have not been able to fully, then it can be said to be platform that is of an influential nature. This therefore highlights how important of a role new and digital media is playing in everyday events.
